About our composer:
Taylor Joshua Rankin (b. 1991) is a composer of new music, drawing on a variety of influences from American and European minimalism, art-rock and electronica, currently based in San Francisco and Oakland, CA. Taylor’s music has been performed by ensembles across the United States, such as Grammy-Award-winning ensemble: Third Coast Percussion, Friction Quartet, Redshift Ensemble, and the NYU Marimba Ensemble. Taylor’s music has been programmed by Abchordis Ensemble and Festival Stradella in Italy, Tutti Festival at Denison University in Ohio, Composers Inc., New York University, the Presidio Club, The San Francisco Conservatory of Music Orchestra, California State University East Bay, PoP Up Magazine’s 2018 season in DC, NY, LA, Portland, Toronto, and Chicago, as well as the 2016, 2017, and 2018 Hot Air Music Festivals.
Taylor received his Masters in Music Composition from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where he studied under accomplished Bay Area composer: Mason Bates.
As a composer of media, Taylor focuses on the emotional context within each project. Using music as a means to ignite inspiration in the viewer, Taylor locates the atmosphere and tone, and gears the music to fit the mood of the piece. Taylor feels at home with the collaborative process and enjoys working with a team to create something new and exciting.
